Heb. 6:16
"Men swear by someone greater than themselves, and the oath confirms what is said and puts an end to all argument."It's like a legal binding. They swear by someone greater which will hold them to whatever it was they said. And the oath will be held up in the case of a dispute.
vs 17-18
"Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath. God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope offered to us may be greatly encouraged."God wanted it to be crystal clear that his promise was sure. He made the promise for one. And then he made an oath to make it double sure. He made sure that it was positively sure that what he said was true. We are to be encouraged because God has given us hope in that. He will come through with what he promised!
vs 19-20
"We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where Jesus, who went before us, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek."The hope we were given is sure. It's strong and secure. It's true. As Christians, Jesus is our hope. The curtain, back in the day was separating the Most Holy Place from the rest of the tabernacle. But when Jesus died, that tore the curtain. (Mt. 27:51) We have the ability to come to God. Jesus is the high priest that speaks on our behalf.
Yay :)
God's promises are sure. He has given us hope and security in that hope. He has torn the veil so we can come to him. He is really amazing. That he loves we lowly people that truly don't deserve it. And loves us SOOO much it's incomprehensible really. I am in awe.
It really is humbling, isn't it? Love our Father! <3 Good post today, Kal!
