But we're going to do this coffee or not :)
Hebrews 8:1-2
"The point of what we are saying is this: We do have such a high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, and who serves in the sanctuary, the true tabernacle set up by the Lord, not by man."We really do have that high priest. The awesome epic one that sacrificed for our sins once and for all. That saves us completely. He is perfect. He isn't here, but rather at God's right hand and he's serving there rather than on earth.
I'm taking a moment to remind myself who this was written to originally. The Hebrew Christians. Those who were more likely to fall back into their old ways - with rituals and such. They were more familiar with the whole high-priest thing than most of us. Or at least me. And many of my fellow Christians. But I still want to learn and grow from it.
vs 3-4
"Every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices, and so it was necessary for this one also to have something to offer. If he were on earth, he would not be a priest, for there are already men who offer the gifts prescribed by the law."Jesus had to have something to give as that's what priests did. They gave gifts and sacrifices for people. He wouldn't even be a priest here on earth. For one, he wasn't of the proper line to be a priest according to Law. Also, because there were already priests that did their job. (and I'm sure when I write like this, it's not repetitive at all after reading the scripture hahaha, but who cares)
vs 5
"They serve at a sanctuary that is a copy and shadow of what is in heaven. This is why Moses was warned when he was about to build the tabernacle: 'See to it that you make everything according to the pattern shown you on the mountain.'"Those priests that are already doing according to the law are only working as a copy and shadow of what is in heaven. A sort of foretelling for what's to come. It was important that they follow the direction properly so it WOULD be like that. God does that a lot. Gives us a foreshadowing, a small taste of what to really expect from him.
vs 6
"But the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, and it is founded on better promises."Jesus' ministry is greater than the priests' here on earth. And the covenant he brought and is our mediator in is greater than the old covenant. And it is so beautiful that it is founded on better promises, eh? I love that.
And I find that here is a good place to stop our study for the time being, as I keep getting more distracted and don't want to miss out on something.
I'm so blessed and thankful that Jesus is our mediator in this new covenant. Our great high priest that is able to save us completely. Thank you, Lord!
You're really cruising through Hebrews!! I so wish I could have grabbed that cup of coffee with you (I'm ready for peppermint mocha!!) and sat down with our Bibles together. I miss you friend >:D< But I really love reading your posts and your thoughts on the Bible as you go too - I'm really surprised how much I realize just from reading a different perspective too. :)

ReplyDeleteI'm so glad the comment worked today :D
I wonder if any of it has to do with the browser mixed with blogger? Like if perhaps some sort of cookie or whatnot is saved wrong and is messing with you? Not that I /really/ know what I'm talking about hahaha.
The coffee mate peppermint mocha is quite amazing in my opinion!!! Oh my goodness! And the label says "now enjoy all year round" or something like that. :D
It would be so lovely to sip our coffee together and sit down with our Bibles! Maybe we can do that (along with Mom?) at our next get together.
Thanks for reading my blog too :) I'm glad we have each other to keep motivation to keep going :D
