But we are watching the archived video sermons they have online - starting sometime roughly a year ago I think.
The pastor was in Titus 2 I believe. He was talking about I think the older women's role, but it really spoke to me. How they were to live intentionally, and teach the younger women how to as well. I think it was the phrase "teach what is good." He went into detail/gave a visual about how once our sin is forgiven, everything we do is 'vacuumed up' and laid before God. And things are either good, or not. There is no grey middle ground. Things are worth something to God and the kingdom and eternity, or they're worthless. And it's our choice how we live our life. I've been thinking about that a bit. It's so easy to get pulled into something that isn't worth anything. We're not talking about sin. But just meaningless trivial things that take up our time and keep us from godly good things.
I think having it prevalent in my thoughts is helping. Although I haven't necessarily changed anything, it is bringing it to my attention.
Watching a show to just pass the time... worthless and wasteful.
Spending time in God's word, or pondering something of him - good. And prayer - obviously good.
I think things like caring for and loving on your family - those are good and matter to God. not a waste of time.
So here goes trying for a change. Even a little bit of change can make an eternal difference. Between getting to heaven, and getting to heaven and God saying "well done".
And I'm going to grab the next verse in Hebrews 9
vs 15
"For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance—now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant."For this reason = hey, therefore is already defined in this one. :P
So because Christ sacrificed himself with his blood to cleanse our sins and consciences so we can serve God. And back a verse before that one... (v.12) because
"he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, thus obtaining eternal redemption."Christ is the mediator of a new covenant.
That those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance - We who have been called by God and have accepted his forgiveness of sins and gift of salvation, we get the promised eternal inheritance.
Now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.
So my little paraphrase paragraph thing:
Because Christ came and sacrificed himself once for all with his pure blood (which is more powerful than any animal's blood) so that we can be cleansed from the inside rather than the outside and can really serve God, and because he is our high priest, Christ is the mediator of this new covenant. The covenant that he revealed to us, and made possible by his sacrifice. So that we who have accepted God's calling through Christ can get his promise - an eternal inheritance!- And we can get that inheritance because he has died as that payment God needed to set us free from the sins under that first covenant. The one that didn't account for our inner cleansing.
Christ has made it possible for us to be free from sin and death and have God's promise. He sacrificed to cleanse us and to become our high priest. And that makes him the mediator of this new covenant. The negotiator. We would be no where without him.
Oomph. I needed that kick in the rear, about what's good and what's not good. Great perspective on that.
ReplyDeleteReminds me that when I have 1 hour in the morning and get to choose between Bible study time and a show and crafts, I should probably not be picking the crafts 90% of the time. :/
Thanks for logging those thoughts, buddy!
