Hebrews 3:1-6

What a beautiful morning! It looks like it might rain, but I'm really happy with that since it's not 95* again! It was a relief to take the dogs out this morning and actually have cool air. *sigh of relief*
And the wind blows the trees so beautifully! I love how beautiful God's creation is!

I have my coffee in hand and my Bible in front of me (and a different version open online esvbible.org I like esv version and it has notes) and a determination not to open facebook once while I do today's study. We'll see how it goes!

Beginning Chapter 3, "Jesus Greater than Moses" is the heading here in both versions.

vs 1
"Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess."
The first thing here that stuck out to me was that word apostle, as I'm not used to that word being associated with Jesus but rather his special 12 disciples (plus paul). So I looked it up - apostle here means messenger of God. It refers to being sent out. So Jesus was sent out by God. And then Jesus sent out the 12 which is why they're apostles.
That word, Therefore, is always hanging around in this book. It feels in my brain like a huge run-on thought, so it's hard for me to stay focused so long.
Is it something like "Since Jesus came as a human and defeated death and is our high priest able to help us, fellow members of God's family, who share in a heavenly calling, focus on Jesus, the messenger from God (Apostle) and the high priest whom we profess to be ours. "

"He was faithful to the one who appointed him, just as Moses was faithful in all God's house." (vs 2)
They were both faithful to what God called them to do. Moses is a big deal as far as people go. By obeying God he freed his fellow Hebrews/Israelites as well as bringing what is known as the "Mosaic law". Everyone knew him. And Jesus is here compared with him.
On to verse 3

"Jesus has been found worthy of greater honor than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself. For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything."
Here Jesus is shown as greater than Moses. Which we know. But this argument seems to be for people that may have been struggling with the thought? As per the angel argument earlier. It has now been well established that Jesus is greater than angels and Moses!
I like how vs 5 and 6 show it as Moses like a servant, but Jesus is the son over God's house. Good analogy.

"And we are his house, if we hold on to our courage and the hope of which we boast."

We are his dwelling place if we can keep firm possession of our confidence and the hope we boast of until the end (as included in some translations)
.

So, in conclusion,
Take a look at Jesus, he IS greater than Moses. And we are his (Jesus') house if we can keep hold of our confidence and the hope that we boast of until the end.
